Hello, Toddler Families

We hope you all had a beautiful Pesach and time at home/traveling with families.  We welcomed your toddlers back with refreshed works on the shelves for our remaining 28 days of the school year! When work is placed on shelves in a Montessori classroom, the intent is that we think of at least one specific child when choosing it.  What fun it is this time of year to reflect on how far our twelve "babies" have come.  If your child was really interested in cutting and had worked diligently with loop scissors, they are likely drawn to our cutting with "regular scissors".  For that fine motor pincer grip we have toothpicks going through a parmesan shaker.  Think of how tightly one must squeeze a toothpick to drop it in! We've scaffolded up the lacing, the size of markers and crayons, and the spoons used for scooping as all of these pre-writing grips prepare the children to write.  We've added some matching that can transition into memory, community story telling with a felt story board, and magnetic letters.  We continue to explore cause and effect, color gradients, and the lifecycles.

As the weather has seemed to finally turn for good, we spend significant time outside each day and while an adult brain calls that "play", it is all work to a child.  Think about it- the scooping and digging, the turn taking, reciprocity of dialogue, and the visual spatial reasoning it takes to climb, jump, and swing.

We want to thank you all for your snack adjustments, for sending in layers, and for how well you communicate with us.  It's been such an incredible year with your children.

We look forward to seeing each of you for parent teacher conferences on April 27th or April 28th, and then at the Chai Tots Art Show on May 5th!

Warmly,

Morahs Megan, Sarah, and K
