Hello and Happy Notes of Spring!
As we venture outside into the warmer air and mud, we see pure joy on the children's faces and in their spirits. That joy is also being celebrated within the classroom as we have introduced the Jewish Holiday of Purim! We started by reading the story during Davening and have introduced new works including building a palace like that of King Ahasuerus and Queen Esther, exploring triangles as a prequel to Hamantaschen, and putting out the character puppets of Haman, Queen Vashti, Queen Esther, Mordechai, and King Ahasuerus. As we continue to read and discuss the story-- the attempted execution of all the Jews and the work done by Mordechai and Queen Esther to save the Jews from such a fate-- we will introduce lessons about emotions, joy, happiness, and celebrations. We will use triangles and images of Hamantaschen for clay work, matching, search and find, and building. The children will create castles and explore the difference between loud and quiet from sound boxes to making their own groggers! As a school, we will read the Megillah- the story of Esther. It is such a treat to watch the children light up with new stories, information, and translate that into tangible works and understanding around the classroom.
Thank you for partnering with us in times of joy and hardship, as we know both well. We will continue to share photos on our class WhatsApp so you can see the parts of Purim in the classroom!
Warmly,
Morahs Megan, Sarah, and K
